If you are new to teaching qualitative research, or if you are teaching those who are new to qualitative research, this session is for you. You will be introduced to the content of our online course Doing Qualitative Research, including the complete open data set of the Qualitative Research Journeys project, decided to teach qualitative approaches and share the processes and documentation of running a research project.
Doing Qualitative Research is a free curated resource that takes researchers through the whole research cycle, not just the analysis. The course covers a range of methodological approaches and is designed to be self-guided, and non-linear, so you can focus on the aspects you need to cover. There is a heavy emphasis on what it is like to 'do' qualitative research in a robust, ethical and professional manner, with practical exercises and reflexive tasks suggested throughout.
The overview will be framed by discussions with other participants and describing how these resources can be included in teaching all aspects of qualitative research at undergraduate and post-graduate level. The session is led by the course author Dr Cathy Gibbons. Cathy has almost 20 years' experience of teaching qualitative methods across a wide spectrum of disciplines within and beyond the social sciences.
